ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

An applicant requesting admission may be asked to take entry-level classes before entering into a program.

Students are required to have a high school diploma and be capable of demonstrating the ability to benefit from the programs offered at New Horizons. While there are entry interviews to ensure a student is qualified to complete the programs he/she is entering, there is no required testing for entry-level classes that would keep the applicant from entering the program. If an applicant does not have the basic knowledge generally gained from entry-level classes, which may be prerequisites for a program, the applicant may be required to take the entry-level classes before entering. Students must show that they have the basic knowledge necessary for the program during an interview prior to enrollment. Previous work, certifications, or training experience may allow a student to be exempt from some prerequisites. An Educational Consultant will assist the student in determining whether he/she qualifies for such exemption.

A student wishing to apply for enrollment may audit one session of an applications or technical class prior to entering the program at no cost to determine if the program is something he/she wants to pursue. Once a student has decided to make the commitment, they must furnish their Educational Consultant with a copy of their high school transcript, college transcript, or GED certificate.

Each student is assigned an Educational Consultant that interviews the student prior to any program. The Educational Consultant will continue to monitor the students' progress. The Student Liaison is available for all students for program assistance while they are in attendance. Each Educational Consultant is trained, tested, and certified in the technical nature of the program to council students in specific areas that the school offers.

APPEAL

Students may appeal decisions made by their educational consultant in regards to academic or disciplinary action to the school director.  Such appeal must be made in the form of a letter and be delivered certified US mail.  The decision of the school director is final.

ATTENDANCE/CLASS CUTS/NO SHOWS

Technical programs that the student is seeking certification require 80% attendance. After missing one day/night in any class the student is contacted by the Education Consultant. If a student is not making the 80% attendance required by the program, then the Education Consultant and an Administrative Officer will meet with the student. The student will be required to make up the days missed to qualify for the test-pass guarantee. Students can retake a class as many times as needed for up to a 1-year period from the original class date. There is a one-year time period on completion of any program without further charge.

CANCELLATION

New Horizons must be notified 15 or more business days in advance of your scheduled class date should you need to withdraw, cancel, or reschedule your reserved seat in the class. This will secure rescheduling or a refund of your tuition. Withdrawals, cancellations, or rescheduling notifications, (late cancellations), received in writing less than 15 days prior to a scheduled class will not receive a refund or cancellation of unpaid invoice. Late cancellation notifications will be given the opportunity to re-take the course which they cancelled for a period of six (6) months from the original date of class. If a client/student fails to attend any scheduled class in which they are enrolled and has not notified New Horizons the client/student shall be considered a "no show". Any "no show" will not receive a refund or cancellation of unpaid invoice and will not have the opportunity to re-take the course for which they failed to properly notify New Horizons of their cancellation.

CLASS STARTING & ENDING DATES

A student may enter the school at any time. The school recommends that the student take the classes in the order listed under the program curriculum. The date of completion is determined by the date that the student completes all of the required classes for each program. All classes are awarded a certificate upon completion. To obtain a program certification, all classes in the specific program must be completed. Students may wish to complete a program faster or slower. A student may get meet with their assigned Educational Consultant and alter the speed of the program if the schedule permits.

Students must attend a minimum of 80% of class time (five-day class, must attend four days). Students may repeat any class as many times as they wish up to six months from first day of each class.

COMPLAINTS

Formal complaints may be made when attempts at resolution have been unsuccessful. To initiate a formal complaint; the student will prepare a written report to the attention of the school director detailing your attempts at resolution. If your situation is not satisfactorily resolved with your school director, you must submit another letter to the governing body of the school. If the governing body doesn't resolve your issue, you may then contact the North Carolina Community College System.

INTERRUPTIONS IN TRAINING/TERMINATION

A student is not terminated for failure to learn the required skills.  A student that has not successfully completed the examinations at the end of each course is encouraged to attend the additional class sessions for extra practice.  The student is permitted to re-take the classes within a reasonable time as determined by the instructor.  The retaking of such classes is of no extra costs to the student.  If the student fails to achieve a passing grade the second time, he/she is counseled by the Admissions Director as to the advisability of continuing and if he/she decides to continue, a Certificate of Completion may not be awarded.  If a student doesn't call to cancel or doesn't show for three (3) courses consecutively out of their program, he/she will be terminated for unsatisfactory attendance.

LATE POLICY

Students should arrive 15 minutes before class starts. A student arriving after attendance has been taken is considered late. The instructor will mark the amount of time unless the instructor considers the reason for tardiness legitimate. If a student arrives more that 15 minutes late his seat may be given up to a waiting student.
